Alex Narvaez (JD), Youth access to counsel Lead Attorney
Alex was born and raised in Seattle. She is Latina and fluent in both English and Spanish. Alex advocates for youth through all four LCYC programs - child welfare, juvenile court, immigrant youth, and youth homelessness. Prior to LCYC, Alex worked as a public defender with The Defender Association Division of KCDPD. While at The Defender Association, she provided representation to indigent clients, both adult and youth. She represented youth in criminal, dependency, civil commitment, truancy, at risk youth, and CHINS cases. Her goal with each youth is to not only represent them through their legal proceeding, but also to provide them with the tools, and knowledge of being able to better themselves in their own environments, whether that be at school, home, or as a young adult. Alex's knowledge of Seattle ‘s community organizations assists her in successfully connecting youth with services to meet their unique needs.
In aligning her heritage, interests and talents, Alex briefly participated with a Juvenile Justice committee at El Centro de la Raza. El Centro de la Raza is a community resource organization for Seattle’s Latin@ Community and communities of historically underrepresented people. Following her work on this committee, Alex joined their Board of Directors in November 2013. Alex’s involvement with El Centro de la Raza and other community organizations in King County allows her to advocate for youth in various settings, while simultaneously expanding her knowledge of the resources and support available to youth served by LCYC.
Alex also has a strong background in advocating for access to higher education. While attending the University of Washington, she worked with several student outreach organizations, specifically aimed at increasing the numbers of historically underrepresented students in higher education. This experience provided her with knowledge of resources for higher education and information on the constant barriers that youth face throughout the education system. Alex is the lead LCYC attorney for the Youth Access to Counsel program.
